2003 Australian Institute of Alpine Studies (AIAS) annual meeting

The 2003 AIAS meeting will be hosted by La Trobe University Research Centre for Alpine Ecology and held at Howman's Gap Alpine Centre 12-14 December 2003.

The plan is that if people arrive late Friday morning we can run through the afternoon and with a couple of field trips we can finish after breakfast Sunday so people can travel back to far-off places.

(Note there is accommodation available Thursday night for any early birds.)

The program needs to be flexible to cope with weather but the suggested program is:

Friday arrive late morning: lunch at Howman's:

Saturday:

Sunday:

The format of seminars will be the usual 10 minutes with five minutes of questions - if we get enough interest we can group these concentrating on some major themes such as fire, wetlands, global change.

Howman's Gap is 5 km below Falls Creek Alpine Resort and the Bogong High Plains : 2 hours drive from Wodonga or Wangaratta.

Accommodation is in a modern chalet type building with well appointed bunkrooms and hearty meals are provided each day by experienced chefs.

Cost: $90/person incl. GST:  includes 2 nights accommodation, lunch and  dinner Friday and Saturday, and breakfast Saturday and Sunday. Payment at Howman's Gap by cash or cheque.

This looks like a great opportunity to get together post-fire and to get out into the field with the Victorian chapter of the AIAS. For those in NSW we will have a few vehicles leaving Jindabyne on the Friday morning returning Sunday afternoon. Hopefuly we wil see good numbers turn up for what looks to be a great weekend.

Cheers
Ken
